Lamine Yamal’s new Barcelona contract.

Barcelona has revealed that Lamine Yamal, its 17-year-old wonderkid, has committed to the La Liga powerhouses for the foreseeable future by signing a new contract extension.

Yamal, who is widely considered to be among the most gifted young players in football history, has been a key player for Barcelona this season as they have won a domestic triple and advanced to the Champions League semifinals.

Everything you need to know about the teen’s huge new deal is right here.

When did Yamal’s last contract expire?

In 2023, Yamal signed his final contract with Barcelona, which was the longest three-year deal a player under the age of 18 could have.

It was intended that the contract would expire at the end of the next 2026 season. There was little indication that any of Europe’s other best teams, or even a substantial offer from Saudi Arabia, could entice Yamal away from his boyhood side, even as his reputation grew and he neared the end of that term.

Yamal, who is represented by superagent Jorge Mendes, was reportedly scheduled to sign his most recent contract when he turned 18 in July, according to reports from the local Catalonian press.

However, Barcelona has clearly responded to his quick ascent by advancing the talks and concluding a deal two days after the end of their incredible 2024–25 season.

When does his new deal expire?

Yamal just agreed to a six-year contract that would expire in 2031.

He will still just be 23 when that contract expires, as Barcelona’s Twitter points out. His most recent contract outpaces that of Pedri, Gavi, and Dani Olmo, who are all committed to Barcelona till 2030.

What’s been said?

According to Barcelona’s official statement:

An agreement has been reached between FC Barcelona and Lamine Yamal to extend his contract, tying him to the team until June 30, 2031.

In front of the team’s sporting director, Anderson Luis de Souza “Deco,” first vice president Rafa Yusta, and FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta, the player inked a new contract. contract in the club’s offices on Tuesday.

“An additional indication of the stability of the ongoing Barça project is the contract extension for Lamine Yamal. At the age of 15, the Barça forward made his first appearance for the first team on April 29, 2023. Since then, the young player from Mataró, close to Barcelona, has taken the world of football by storm with performances that are already ingrained in FC Barcelona history.

Unsurprisingly, Barcelona’s social media crew has been taking advantage of the news, posting things like

A few athletes sign contracts. Others sign eras.

“A star is designated as a protostar when it initially originates.”

How much will Yamal earn?

In football history, no 17-year-old has ever signed a deal this rich.

Yamal will rank among Hansi Flick’s top earners, according to BEIN Sports, with a base salary of €15 million per season, which could increase to €20 million with performance-related bonuses.

That is only roughly half of Kylian Mbappe’s rumored €31 million pay, and it is far less than the reported salaries of seasoned players like Robert Lewandowski and Frenkie De Jong.

With a base salary of €15 million each season, he will rank approximately 35th among the highest-paid players in Europe’s five major leagues, on par with players like Thibaut Courtois of the Madrid giants and the Bayern Munich team’s Leroy Sane.

Is there a release clause?

There was a symbolic €1 billion release clause in Yamal’s previous Barcelona contract.

Football contracts in Spain typically include a release clause, although Barcelona and Real Madrid frequently circumvent this by including ridiculously high clauses. Pedri, Jude Bellingham, Mbappe, and Vinicius Junior are among the other well-known players who have such a provision.

There are no indications that the situation there has changed, but Barcelona has not formally said whether the release clause has changed.
